Macho Again wins the Jim Dandy Stakes · July 27, 2008
Macho Again proved that he is one of the best (and grittiest) three-year-olds in the country by winning his first Graded Stakes, the $500,000 Grade 2 Jim Dandy. Nobody who saw his determined victory or the masterful ride by pilot Julian Leparoux will forget either any time soon.
Macho Again wins the 2008 Derby Trial · April 26, 2008
There were no lawyers, no judge and no jury, but Macho Again proved his case to win the $100,000 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs. Macho Again had to find his footing at the break, but he was eager early before settling comfortably for jockey Julien Leparoux. Macho Again laid sixth about five-lengths back behind a quarter in 22.2 and a half in 45 flat. Engaged from the outside heading into the turn for home, Macho Again kicked on in tandem with Majestic Warrior. Macho Again continued his charge through the turn drawing on nearly even terms with the pacesetter. Macho Again was bumped soundly at the top of the stretch when Majestic Warrior shifted in, but Macho Again remained strong and determinedly continued his march to the front grinding away at the deficit before collaring the leader in the final stages to score a half-length win. The running time for the seven and a half-furlongs was a strong 1:28.2 just over two-fifths of a second off the track record.
Macho Again dominates allowance field at Fair Grounds · February 28, 2008
Races cannot setup more perfectly for a horse than it did today for Macho Again who dominated an "a other than" allowance field at the Fair Grounds. Breaking from the far outside post in the six-furlong contest, Macho Again got away well and settled into sixth place early behind a crackling first quarter-mile in 21.4. Jockey Julien Leparoux kept Macho Again well out into the center of the track giving him a nudge at the three-eighths pole. Macho Again responded to his cue and began closing in on the leaders heading into the final turn. Macho Again drew less than three-lengths from the front after a half-mile in 46.1 before really finding an extra gear in the stretch. Under confident handling from jockey Julien Leparoux, Macho Again struck the front at the eighth-pole and drew away with every stride to win convincingly by over four-lengths.
Macho Again breaks maiden in smashing style · October 28, 2007
A return to the dirt was exactly what the racing gods ordered as Macho Again dominated a maiden special weight field at Churchill Downs. Macho Again broke very alertly then came back to hand for jockey Jamie Theriot. He rated in fourth through a quarter-mile in 23 flat then advanced to third after a half-mile. When Theriot gave Macho Again his cue, Macho Again exploded away and drew off to over a five-length victory while under a hand ride late.
